The Advising and Supporting competency area addresses the knowledge, skills, and dispositions related to providing advising and support to individuals and groups through direction, feedback, critique, referral, and guidance. Through developing advising and supporting strategies that take into account self-knowledge and the needs of others, we play critical roles in advancing the holistic wellness of ourselves, our students, and our colleagues (ACPA & NASPA, 2015).

Provided opportunity to establish rapport with students, groups, colleagues, and others that acknowledges differences in lived experiences. Specifically, student-athletes taking summer courses.

Developed practical skills and valuable knowledge related to becoming an efficient and effective leadership educator in modern postsecondary environments. Those skills were used to develop effective educational leadership programming. I was able to distribute helpful information on mental health in higher education.

Within my role, I collaborate with other campus departments and organizations to address students’ holistic wellness needs in a comprehensive, collaborative way.
As the disability coordinator, I am able to develop liaisons with community providers and support systems to ensure seamless and coordinated holistic care. I frequently coordinate and lead response processes as they relate to crisis interventions and provide an effective post-traumatic response to situations involving students with disabilities. In some cases, I provide mental health consultation to faculty, staff, and campus behavioral assessment teams.
Tutorial Assistant, Florida State University
Facilitated group decision-making, goalsetting, and process through student-athlete group tutor sessions.
Acted as a mentor to student-athletes.
Provided any patterns of behavior that may signal mental health or other wellness concerns at the end of each tutor session.
